January 2024 Athlete of Month

Congratulations to our January Athletes of the Month Bronwyn and Alex.

As a true embodiment of the term “student-athlete,” Alex not only excels in his athletic pursuits but also prioritizes studies, striking a remarkable balance between sports and education. His dedication to both aspects of his life is an example to his peers. Also, Alex’s commitment to the HCS senior men’s basketball team is unwavering – he never misses a practice or team event, which is a testament to his loyalty and solid work ethic. Beyond this commitment, he goes even further by volunteering for the middle school basketball teams, serving as a positive role model for young athletes.

Bronwyn has taken on a leadership role since the return of the hockey program, and this season, her teammates voted unanimously for her to wear the C. She goes above and beyond to make sure all players are included and is often seen helping others on the sidelines during training. On the ice, she always gives 100% without being asked and perfectly illustrates all the characteristics of a Spartan athlete, namely sportsmanship, studies, and respect.

Congratulations to both athletes and thank you to the coaches and staff for taking the time to recognize these outstanding students.

Introducing our Jan. 2024 Athlete of the Month Presented by BCMilk, Caleb Arrington! Caleb is described by his peers as a dedicated, hard-working and encouraging player with a strong work ethic. Serving as co-captain, he has played a crucial role in bringing his previously unranked senior basketball team on the map, where they are having one of the most successful seasons in school history. Beyond the court, Caleb maintains academic excellence and is heavily involved in his school community. Congratulations Caleb!

Introducing our Jan. 2024 Athlete of the Month Presented by @BCMilk, Gwyneth Storry from Merritt Secondary! Gwyneth is a starting guard on the Merritt sr. girls basketball team, while being in grade 9. Averaging 28 pts/game this season, she is described as a ferocious defender and skilled player. Gwyneth displays leadership on and off the court while maintaining an excellent academic standing. This season, she led her team to their first home tournament championship in 15 years where she put up a 26 pt performance in the final. Congrats!

January 2024 Newsletters

Check It Out! It’s The Winter Edition Of The Bulletin.

2024 Winter Bulletin News Story

This special school year for OFSAA is off to strong start!

We saw repeat gold medal winners in all three boys’ volleyball events and a “three-peat” girls’ basketball champion in late November. A skilled girls’ golf medalist in 2022 earned the honour again in 2023 as did a standout senior boys’ cross country champion from a year ago. Congratulations to all the high-achieving student-athletes and dedicated coaching staffs!

Our recaps of the championships and festivals can be found here in the pages of our winter issue of The Bulletin Magazine. We know that you will like to read about one student’s first person experience at the Girls’ Field Hockey Championship in addition to a former OFSAA president’s lifetime of school sport memories.

Congratulations to all of the outstanding athletes and coaches who participated in our fall events in 2023.

Please enjoy the pages of the magazine and we’ll continue to recognize future standouts as our 75th Anniversary school year rolls on!

Look for printed editions of the magazine in your school soon!
