OFSAA Offering Regional Event Honorarium – Pick an Activity
Take Advantage Of A Regional Event Honorarium! Apply Now!
OFSAA is excited to introduce Regional Events for the first time! In an effort to increase and enhance opportunities for participation in 2022-23, schools are encouraged to apply online.
Do you have a sport in mind? Fun sports such as pickleball, spikeball, cricket or even another popular sport option are in play.
Successful applications will be awarded a $500 honorarium from OFSAA to assist with event expenses.
The philosophy behind Regional Events:
- Priority on participation not competition
- Provide student leadership opportunities
- Target students who are not currently participating in athletics at the school
- Event which introduces a new activity or one currently popular in the region
- No eligibility requirements (ex. Transfers)
The items to be included in the application are as follows:
- Budget
- Competition Schedule
- Explanation of how the event will promote increased participation in your region

OFSAA Offering Student-Athlete And Teacher-Coach Subsidy
OFSAA is pleased to extend subsidies once again in the 2022-23 school year! Please learn more about the Student-Athlete Subsidy and the Teacher-Coach Subsidy below.
The OFSAA Student-Athlete Sports Subsidy
Participation in school sport is important and students learn many life skills, so we want all students to have equal opportunity to experience school sport.
OFSAA is offering grants for students who have difficulty finding the monies to pay their athletic fee for league competition.
The current application form can be found HERE and must be used to apply for funds this year. The Student-Athlete Sports Subsidy will also be available in the winter and spring of 2023.
Important Information for schools:
- The current application must be used. Complete fully, checking off all the items covered by the sport specific fee, and making sure the *parent section* and signature are filled in.
- To determine grant eligibility, the committee will consider social and economic barriers facing the student’s family as identified by the parents. It is Important that the parents include comprehensive information on the family’s current financial situation.
- The maximum amount a student may receive is $135.
- The endorser should be a person aware of the student’s financial situation and needs, and of the breakdown of the athletic fees (general and sport specific). An Athletic Director or Physical Education Department Head may best fit this role.
- Monies are only approved for inter-school participation fees for regular league play. This grant is not intended to cover any costs associated with exhibition matches, tournament play, or additional costs incurred from qualifying for championships.
- We may not be able to provide funding for all applicants, so schools should evaluate the students applying and submit forms for those that are most in need.
- Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Applications must be received by the deadline date of October 31, 2022.

La participation au sport scolaire offre des expériences enrichissantes et hautement formatives. La FASSO tient à niveler les chances dans ce domaine en offrant des subventions aux élèves qui ont de la difficulté à couvrir les frais d’inscription à une ligue sportive. Le formulaire de demande se trouve sur le site Web de la FASSO. Le formulaire est obligatoire ICI pour demander une subvention cette année.
Information importante pour les écoles:
- Il est obligatoire d’utiliser le formulaire de demande le plus récent. Le formulaire doit être rempli au complet, y compris l’information sur les frais d’inscription. Notamment, les parents doivent remplir et signer la section Situation familiale.
- Le comité de sélection tiendra compte des obstacles socio-économiques auxquels la famille est confrontée. Il est donc important que les parents fournissent suffisamment de détails au sujet de leur situation financière.
- La subvention maximale est de 135 $ par élève.
- L’endosseur devrait être au courant de la situation financière et des besoins de l’élève, ainsi que des frais d’inscription (tant les frais généraux de participation au sport inter-scolaire que les frais liés au sport pratiqué par l’élève). Il pourrait s’agir de la direction des activités sportives ou du chef du département d’éducation physique.
- Les fonds sont octroyés seulement pour couvrir les frais de participation aux ligues sportives inter-scolaires. Les coûts de participation à des matchs de démonstration ou à des tournois, ainsi que les coûts supplémentaires de qualification pour les championnats, ne sont pas admissibles.
- Les fonds sont limités. L’école devrait effectuer une présélection et soumettre les demandes des élèves dont les besoins sont les plus grands.
- Les demandes seront traitées selon le principe du premier arrivé, premier servi.
- La date limite de réception des demandes est le 31 octobre 2022.
The OFSAA Teacher-Coach Course Subsidy
In order to support teacher-coaches, OFSAA will be offering a subsidy for course registrations for NCCP Coaching Courses and Standard First Aid. OFSAA will provide a maximum of $150 per teacher-coach to help cover eligible course registration fees. Coaching courses must match the requirements specified by Ophea.
If interested, please submit the ‘Teacher-Coach Course Subsidy Application Form’, located HERE to nicole@ofsaa.on.ca. Prior to submitting your application, please refer to the Ophea Coaching Requirements on the Ophea website to gain an understanding of the coaching requirements for each sport.
Following your submission of the application, OFSAA will review it and send you a confirmation of acceptance. Then, you may register and pay for the course. Following successful completion of the course, please forward your certificate of completion and we will then arrange to provide you with the course subsidy of up to $150.
Important Information:
- Research course specifics to ensure the course you are interested in is recognized by Ophea.
- Submit application for review which must be received by June 1, 2023.
- An email will be sent by OFSAA that will indicate the status of your application.
- Complete course or training by June 23, 2023.
- Submit certificate of completion within seven days of course completion.
Please note that there is limited funding available and subsidies will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dans cet esprit, nous offrons des subventions aux enseignants-entraîneurs qui suivent une formation du PNCE ou un cours de premiers soins. Une subvention maximale de 150 $ est offerte par enseignant-entraîneur afin d’aider à couvrir les frais d’inscription aux cours admissibles. Les cours pour entraîneurs doivent correspondre aux exigences d’Ophea.
Les formulaires de demande doivent être soumis par courriel ICI à l’adresse nicole@ofsaa.on.ca. Avant d’envoyer votre demande, veuillez consulter le site Web d’Ophea afin de comprendre les exigences applicables aux entraîneurs selon le sport en question.

PHE Canada Launches $2M School Sport and Physical Activity Grant Program
| PHE Canada Launches $2M School Sport and Physical Activity Grant Program PHE Canada is proud to announce funding from Sport Canada to increase the physical activity of Kindergarten to Grade12/CEGÉP students across Canada through the Access to Action Grant Program. Access to Action is a national grant program that will support equity-deserving children and youth (including Indigenous, Black, cultural or ethnic minority, 2SLGBTQ+, students with disabilities, and newcomers) across the country, in accessing high quality sport and physical activity programming before, during, and after school. Access to Action grants will support projects related to any areas in school sport, physical activity, and physical education. Grants typically range from $500 – $5,000 per recipient. However, all requests will be considered based on the potential impact, and up to $20,000 may be awarded as one grant. Application Period: October 6, 2022 – February 28, 2023 |
| For the 2022-2023 school year, Access to Action will fund a minimum of 500 physical activity and/or sport programs. Grants will enable schools to create meaningful relationships with community sport organizations and opportunities to engage equity-deserving youth in physical activity and sport. Who is eligible to receive funding? As the only school-based program funded through the COVID recovery fund (Community Sport for All Initiative), Access to Action is uniquely positioned to reach schools across Canada.
