Job Posting: Unified Sports Program Manager

Are you passionate about promoting inclusivity in sports and empowering students with intellectual disabilities? Join us in expanding and supporting Unified Sports programs in schools across Alberta!

As the Unified Sports Program Manager, you will lead initiatives to grow inclusive sports programs in elementary, junior high, and high schools, working with Special Olympics Alberta and the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association (ASAA). Your role will also focus on facilitating student transitions from school sports to community-based Special Olympics programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the expansion of Unified Sports programs across Alberta.

Coordinate school-based events and ensure they align with Unified Sports principles.

Build relationships with schools, community partners, and sport organizations.

Support student transitions to local Special Olympics programs.

Track and report program growth and success.

Skills & Qualifications:

Experience in program/event management or sports administration.

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Valid Alberta driver’s license and ability to travel within the province.

Compensation: Starting at $65,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Congratulations to our October Athletes of the Month Lillie Hussey and Amelia Lane.

Lillie is an accomplished athlete who excels at multiple sports. She leads by example on and off the field. She brought her enthusiasm from Team NB and Nationals back to her high school team, where she has shared skills and drills with all of us. Even when injuries occasionally sidelined her, Lillie continues to encourage and push her teammates to play to the best of their ability. Her competitive nature and sportsmanship has earned the respect of teachers, coaches and officials wherever she goes. She uses her sports skills off the field as well, as she is a high academic student as well as the president of the Student Council, where she works diligently to encourage and motivate every student in the school.

Amelia is a high calibre, multi-sport athlete in her senior year at Bonar Law Memorial School. She is a natural leader for her teammates and peers on and off the field. Her fierce drive, commitment, and determination to her athletics have easily earned her the role of captain for multiple teams. She plays hard but trains harder, and leads her senior girls soccer team in goals for the second straight year, and is responsible for bringing back cross country to her school. Amelia is the only student representing Bonar Law in cross country this fall. When she is not training, she is dedicating her time to the future generation of athletes, acting as an assistant soccer coach to elementary aged youth and working in future athletics, volunteering to run the Track and Field Trailblazers program for the Rexton area.

Congratulations to both athletes and thank you to the coaches and staff for taking the time to acknowledge these amazing students.

A huge congratulations to Brooke Rousselle from Bishop Carroll High School (Home of the Cardinals) for being named our Female Athlete of the Month!

Brooke has shown incredible dedication and perseverance in Cross Country, and her hard work this season has truly paid off. Her commitment to excellence both on and off the track embodies the spirit of student-athletes in the ASAA.

We’re so proud to celebrate her achievements and can’t wait to see what’s next for this rising star!

A massive congratulations to Harkirat Singh Randhawa from Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack for being named the ASAA Male Athlete of the Month for October!

Harkirat’s incredible performance in Cross Country this season has set a new standard of excellence. His hard work, determination, and sportsmanship have earned him this well-deserved recognition.

Wednesday November 13 – 504C: Legal Issues I – The Basics of Negligence, Liability, and Risk Management
This course covers liability, negligence, and risk management practices for athletic administrators. Legal concepts will be introduced to athletic administrators through the use of case law, case studies, and guided discussion. Appropriate risk management documentation procedures for athletic administrators will be identified. Attendees will benefit from discussing real-life case law scenarios and defining the duties and standards of care that the law requires of athletic administrators. Attendees will leave the course with new knowledge and actionable strategies for managing risk.
**LTP 504C is the one of three fundamental courses required for the CRAA Certification

Monday November 19 – 720C: Creating a Character-Based Athletics Program
Character based educational athletics can only truly succeed when the entire community — School Board, Superintendent, Principal, Parents and Boosters — support and embrace the values and views lived daily in the school setting by the student and strategies needed to implement these programs within the entire community athletes, coaches, athletic department and school faculty. Without question, teachable moments in athletics prepare students for life when the whole community supports and reinforces those life lessons. This course will empower the athletic administrator to help motivate in order to be a key figure in helping the school community to understand and embrace important character expectations for the school program.


Monday November 25 – LTP 602C: Creating Your Athletic Handbook 
This course is designed to guide attendees through the process of creating a complete and effective athletic handbook. Effective athletic handbooks provide vision/direction for your program, disseminate critical information to your constituents and can save Athletic Administrators countless hours. This is a working course where attendees will be provided with a number of templates as a starting point and surrounded by experienced Athletic Administrators leading the course. Attendees will be expected to come prepared with a list of school and district-specific documents to guide them during the handbook creation process.

Thursday November 28 – LTP 501C: Philosophy, Organizational Structure, and Professional Development
This course is aimed at assisting athletic directors set the tone for their program. Origins of athletic administration are addressed in addition to codes of ethics. The concept of “educational athletics” is discussed and refined. The role of the athletic administrator and the importance of having a school philosophy are addressed and workshop participants have the opportunity to interact with others to refine their own philosophies. Organizational relationships are examined from a provincial, national and international perspective. Key policies are also reviewed. Current and future courses are highlighted and the certification program is described.
