PEISAA Senior Athletes of the Month for September
Alexa Doyle– field hockey, Grade 12
Alexa has been a real leader on the team. As team captain and a utility player, she has been asked to play numerous different positions and has excelled at all of them. Her skill is at an elite level. As a forward she puts defensive players on their heels as she brings speed and skill to push the play. As a midfielder she controlled the play, distributed the ball to her teammates and plays great 2-way field hockey. She plays a crucial role in both offensive and defensive penalty corners. She holds her teammates accountable and is more than willing to put in the work. She is always asking for suggestions to improve her game.
Alexa is participating in two programs this semester- Big Brothers Big Sisters and Gamechangers. In BBBS, Alexa will be paired with a little at one of our feeder elementary schools, to spend time with them once a week. She has shown great initiative with this. Additionally, Alexa is participating in Gamechangers, which is a PHE funded program that we run here at Colonel Gray with the Leadership 621 class and our Special Olympics athletes. In addition to Unified Bocce, students spend time with our students once a week doing activities of their choosing- bowling, crafts, soccer baseball, etc. Alexa has been a great leader with this program, and has made a true effort to connect with our Special Olympic athletes.
Nate MacLean, a member of the Charlottetown Rural Men’s AAA Baseball team.
Nate has been an excellent addition to the Baseball team so far. Although he is only in grade 10, he has become a fast leader on our team! Showing up to every tryout/practice/game prepared, with a positive attitude and ready to tackle whatever is thrown at him. Whether it be pitching, catching or playing the field, Nate gives 110%! His knowledge, awareness and being vocal during the game helps not only himself, but his teammates! He has quickly grown into one of our “go to” guys!
PEISAA Intermediate Athletes of the Month for September
Sullivan “Sully” MacNeill is a Grade 9 student at Birchwood Intermediate. He played on U15AAA Stratford Baseball this past summer.
Pitched a no hitter in 8-0 win vs Morell. 19 strike outs & 3 walks
He has since pitched a second no-hitter and a perfect game on Wed, Oct 15 in the semi-finals.
Bridget Cheverie is a grade 9 student at Summerside Intermediate who has shown outstanding leadership and dedication across multiple sports this fall ( cross country and Field Hockey). Her strong work ethic, positive attitude, and drive to improve make her an exceptional teammate. Always coachable and self-motivated, Bridget inspires those around her and leads by example both on and off the field. While she could be the first female runner to finish during practices, she consistently loops back to encourage and motivate her teammates, showing true team spirit and sportsmanship.
| Congratulations to our September School Sport New Brunswick Athletes of the month, Addison and Jack. Addison is an integral part of Rothesay High’s school athletic program. She is an excellent student who has achieved high honours throughout her high school career. In addition to being a great student, she is also an outstanding athlete that possess numerous athletic skills. Her finest quality is her ability to motivate others to put their best effort forward. This philosophy has had her teammates select her as a team captain numerous times throughout the years. As a captain of the football team, Jack has led at practice and in games. He has scored multiple touchdowns in both games and he has also played on the defensive side of the ball. He has been an impactful player both on and off the field and a key contributor to the Spartans success in the first half of the season. Jack will continue to be a leader as the Spartans look to continue their season. He is also a key piece of our baseball team, pitching two complete games and leading the team in hitting. Jack is also a coach for our unified team doing a great job with this group of athletes. Congratulations to both athletes and thank you to the coaches and staff for taking the time to acknowledge these amazing students. |
